Extra material is a way for you as a trainer to reach the participants on the job, providing them with helpful material related to the training. It might be articles, the presentation from the classroom, a video clip, or something else that you think participants would benefit from accessing after the training.

How it works

After having created a training in Knowly, you can start linking extra material to it right away. For each link, you'll get to choose who should have access to it: Participants only, supporters only or both.

The participants and/or supporters (depending on what you choose) will then be able to see the material under the tab "Extra material" when they visit My pages. Links to My pages can be found at the end of the classroom flow and in most of Freddie's emails and text messages.

You can add, delete and edit the linked material at any time, even after the training in question's end date has passed.

Linked material – how it's done

You can only share material via a link. For articles and video clips online, this is merely a matter of pasting the link to the article video, but in order to share a file, you'll need to first make sure that the file is accessible somewhere online via a link. Two convenient solutions that can assist you in doing so are:

• Google drive Right click on the file you'd like to share and select "Share..." and then "Get shareable link". In the list of options on who may access the file, select "More..." and "On – Public to the web".
• Dropbox Pick the option "Share" in the menu of the file you'd like to link to. Then press "Create a link".

Examples of extra material

The following list was created as a source of inspiration. Perhaps you have entirely different ideas of what might comprise great extra material? Go for it! And while you're at it, don't hesitate to share your ideas with us in the chat, we're incredibly curious!

• Powerpoint from the classroomSeeing the slide deck from the classroom can be a great tool to have in front of you, when as a participant you're trying to recapitulate the training for a supporter.
• Summary of the trainingFor the supporter, who wasn't present at the training, a brief summary of what the training was about might make it a lot easier to support the participant in a relevant way.
• Job aids to use on the job As a participant, having a cheatsheet of the most important concepts from the training on the wall next to your desk is a great way to keep the training top of mind.
• Suggested coaching questionsFreddie suggests coaching questions to supporters, but perhaps you have specific questions that would suit extra well to your training's context? Gather them all in a document and make sure the supporters have access to them!
• Link to evaluationA link to the training's evaluation is suits extra well among the extra material, as the participant often has the training top of mind when entering My pages.
• Suggested articles / videos / podcastsMore in-depth articles, suitable Youtube presentations or podcasts on a relevant subject are all great to include in your extra material.
